Red Yeast Rice Cleansers

The Red Yeast Rice Deep Cleansing Oil (left) and the Red Yeast Rice Facial Foaming Cleanser from Georganic.

I’m not a big fan of oil-based cleansers but the Red Yeast Rice Deep Cleansing Oil doesn’t feel oily at all. After cleansing, the skin feels soft and so refreshed.

It has ingredients like olive oil, isoamyl laurate (which is a lightweight oily ester) and red yeast rice. As you know fermented rice is packed with enzymes and amino acids which are nourishing and moisturising to the skin. On top of that, olive oil is hydrating, acts an an oxidant, contains vitamins A,D,E and K and has been shown to have antibacterial effects.

Below is a full list of the ingredients of the Red Yeast Rice Deep Cleansing Oil.

Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Isoamyl Laurate, Sorbeth-30 Tetraoleate, 1,2-Hexanediol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Monascus Extract (Red Yeast Rice), Water, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Oil, Juniperus Mexicana Oil, Pelargonium Graveolens Flower Oil, Illicium Verum (Anise) Fruit/Seed Oil, Cymbopogon Martini Oil, Cananga Odorata Flower Oil, Pogostemon Cablin Leaf Oil, Borago Officinalis Seed Oil, Fucoxanthin, Butylene Glycol, Astaxanthin.

The Red Yeast Facial Foaming Cleanser is not super foamy. I usually use this cleanser in the morning and I use the oil during the night, and on days when I use heavy makeup, I will do a double cleanse where I will use the oil first to remove the makeup, followed by the foam cleanser.

When I was younger I used to like foam-based cleansers as I like that squeaky clean feeling. My skin was oily back then. The taut and tight feel after cleansing didn’t bother me, but now I know a mild cleanser is better as it doesn’t strip away the essential oils.

Here’s the ingredients for the foam cleanser. Spirulina Maxima extract is said to help achieve youthful skin.

Spirulina Maxima Extract, Potassium Cocoyl Glycinate, Butylene Glycol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Heptyl Glucoside, Monascus Extract, Xanthan Gum, Glycerin, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Extract, Carica Papaya (Papaya) Fruit Extract, Laminaria Hyperborea Extract, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Oil, Juniperus Mexicana Oil, Water, Pelargonium Graveolens Flower Oil, Illicium Verum (Anise) Fruit/Seed Oil, Cymbopogon Martini Oil, Cananga Odorata Flower Oil, Pogostemon Cablin Leaf Oil, Fucoxanthin.

Sometimes I do forget to wear sun block even on a hot sunny day. So I’m hoping these two cleansers can help to even out the age spots and pigmentation.

When it comes to skin care, it is not necessary to overdo it. Just give your skin what it needs. It’s not possible to stay young forever, but we can try to stay youthful for as long as possible. All it takes is self-love, self-care and a little effort.

I read somewhere that yeast in the rice ferment filtrate will support the skin’s natural surface rejuvenation process, thus helping the skin to look and feel soft.

After being closed for nearly 6 months due to Covid-19, the Johor-Singapore Causeway touted as one of the busiest border crossings with 350,000 travellers daily, has re-opened.

But only 2,060 citizens from both countries are permitted to ply the Causeway daily beginning today, and they have to follow the SOP set by both Singapore and Malaysia.

For those who have lost their jobs due to the closing of the border can download the

and submit the form back via email: pandemictaskforce.jobseekers@gmail.com or WhatsApp 017-201 8982.

Johor MCA together with JIBA and the Johor Consumers Movement Association have jointly set up a task force to assist those who have lost their jobs to find new employment.

All the best!

Meanwhile, edgeprop.my reported that the unemployment rate in 2020 may range from 4% to 4.5%, up from the baseline of 3% to 3.5% due to MCO in March and April.

Without strong job prospects, RAM Rating Services Bhd expects consumer spending on necessities to stay relatively flat this year, with a marked decline in discretionary expenditure.

MCA Pandemic Task Force

Johor MCA in collaboration with non-governmental organisations (NGOs) has set up the MCA Pandemic Task Force to help the local community, especially those who have lost their jobs due to the Covid-19 pandemic, find new employment.

Johor MCA Government Coordinating Affairs chairman Michael Tay said the programme is a joint initiative between MCA and Johor Indian Business Association (JIBA) and the Johor Consumers Movement Association, which have received a total of 1,030 complaints related to job loss due to the pandemic since March.

Tay said being dependent on only one job, namely those working in Singapore, and the loss of income would lead to psychological and social problems.

“The MCA Pandemic Task Force initiative aims to provide a platform to coordinate and monitor the provision of job matching opportunities, as well as assist the target group.

“We expect to receive more than 1,000 applications through this platform for the first three to six months, and we encourage employers to come to us if they’re looking for workers.

“Training opportunities are also offered for those who want to explore new fields such as services, health, small and medium-sized industries and Information Technology,” Tay said when met at his office in Johor Bahru here today.

For more information, visit the Pandemic Task Force Facebook page or visit the JIBA office. The job matching form can be downloaded from FB and the completed forms can be emailed to pandemictaskforce.jobseekers@gmail.com or WhatsApp (017-201 8982)

Johor MCA and Johor Indian Business Association (JIBA) will collaborate to set up a platform to identify retrenched workers due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and help them to find employment again.

A massive number of Malaysians — I was told 300,000 — have lost their jobs due to the pandemic and border closure.

Johor MCA Government Coordinating Affairs chairman Michael Tay said a task force will also be formed to reach out to the jobseekers and provide them with training, if needed, to get them re-employed in Johor.

Tay said the task force comprises of a team of individuals who were experts in their respective fields and will have their own approach to assist the public in looking for jobs.

“The task force will match the right candidate to the right job and also schedule training and upskilling programmes for the right job seekers. This would make Malaysians less reliant on the Singapore job market,” he said.

More details later. Stay tuned!

Handy food container

When I first got this container I was fumbling with the snap-on lid which is made of polypropylene with silicone around the rim to ensure that the container is airtight. I found it so hard to close the lid and was complaining about it. I thought there was a problem with the product design.

But after a few days, closing the lid became quite effortless. I stored my mix grain walnut bread in the container the other day and brought it to my workplace to share the bread with my colleagues.

Walnuts have numerous health benefits such as supporting weight control and good brain function, among others.

This is the link to my previous post on the stainless steel food container. Click HERE to read, if you haven’t read it yet. When I wrote that post I have yet to use the container.

The containers come in 3 sizes, and are available in round and rectangular shapes with and without handle. I think the store’s opening promo is ending soon, so if you like the containers or any of the products on http://www.modern.my get them before the promo ends!!!

But even if the promo has ended, you can still use the coupon code BEE4ME to get a 5% discount.

Captivated by violet

In my last post I wrote about reducing plastics, but it’s just not possible because there are way too many plastics in the world today. And there are different types of plastics. The aim is to reduce, not totally abstain or avoid; and another thing is to know your plastics.

Manufactured by NINEWARE, these tableware from South Korea are just too captivating to ignore. They’re made of polypropylene, which is also a form of plastics, but it is considered a safer plastic option for food and drinks, compared to the other plastics.

Polypropylene or PP is regarded as microwave-safe as it has a high resistant to heat and does not leach harmful chemicals into foods or liquids.

Stainless steel food containers

Using plastic food containers is economical and convenient. I use it too all the time. But sometimes the food containers we dump into the trash can may end up as marine litter.

We’ve seen videos and read stories about turtles and seabirds eating these plastic straws and other kinds of plastic wastes. We may not have the intention to indirectly cause their death and some people may not even care. We all have a choice in life. We can choose to be the problem. We can can choose to be the solution.

I’m going to reduce my dependence on plastic by switching to these stainless steel containers (pictured below) from South Korea.

This will keep the seabirds, turtles and other marine life safe. We can also conserve the environment by doing this, and some plastics can have adverse effects on our health so do try to reduce the use of plastic.

Jeju Recipe The Pure Oil

Jeju Island is a tourist magnet, especially for nature lovers who are enchanted by waterfalls and pristine beaches. South Korea’s highest mountain, which is a dormant volcano, lies smack at the centre of this beautiful island.

Jeju was designated a National Biosphere conservation area in 2002, a World Natural Heritage site in 2007, and certified as a member of the Global Geopark Network in 2010. It is the only island in the world to receive these 3 prestigious accolades.

The island is also well-known for its carrots which grow in nutrient-rich soil amid clean air.

These carrots then undergo the process of

before they are shipped out of South Korea.

The antioxidant effect of carrot extract from Jeju enhances skin’s elasticity. The oil is quickly absorbed into the skin without leaving behind any residue, and your skin feels soft and dewy.

Turbulence builds resilience

Michael Tay having a chat with a retail assistant to find out more about the retail scene in Johor Bahru during CMCO

By Michael Tay, Johor MCA Government Coordinating Affairs chairman.

Encountering Covid-19 may have seemed like entering an air pocket, of sort, and it’s going to be a bumpy ride ahead, but I strongly believe Malaysia is more resilient than many other countries.

The turbulence may be uncomfortable but we will survive and a rebound will occur once the borders fully re-open.

The Johor state government reportedly suffered a revenue loss of over 20% following the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO) and closure of the Malaysia-Singapore border where more than 200,000 locals commute daily to the republic for work.

After receiving an outpouring of complaints from those who ply the Causeway and the Second Link daily, I want to say that Malaysia needs to adopt a two-prong approach as she treads on the road to recovery. Both the government and the public must work together in synergy for a faster economic rebound.

The government must set up a task force comprising highly analytical thinkers that will be able to identify new niche markets and types of jobs where workers can be retrained to take on new roles. Those affected by the closure of the borders should not be disheartened.

For workers whose monthly income has been slashed or are about to face a pay cut, please try to downgrade your way of living. It’s not all gloom and doom. Women, too, should not put more pressure on their spouses who are sole breadwinners, as the husbands are doing all they can to provde the best for the family. Instead of grumbling or complaining about the current situation, wives should try to chip in and contribute to the household income.

Malaysians of both genders are known to be rather picky when it comes to finding employment. The pandemic has come to change our mindsets. As long as it is decent work, even if the salary is not what you’re used to getting, you should bear with it until the economic situation improves. I have friends who truly embrace the entrepreneurial spirit where they turn to different trades as a means of improvisation.

When one path is blocked, they look for another path.

We can get tour guides to organise tours to new tourist destinations like recreation or fruit farms, for instance. Singapore-based tour agents which are facing economic challenges should also start planning tours for its citizens to explore Malaysia, especially destinations in Sabah and Sarawak. Singapore is such a tiny island. A short getaway that is affordably-priced would prove to be a much sought-after respite. One just needs to be creative.

The government should promote domestic travels, set up more plantations, fisheries, poultry farms, vegetable farms. This would create jobs for Malaysians and food prices will also become cheaper as they are locally produced.

We seriously need to focus on domestic re-structuring now. We need community leaders who come up with strategies to revive the economy and help the people sustain a livelihood. If you manage your finances well, as long as you’re willing to work hard, survival is not an issue.

SMEs need to be taken care of, and we should welcome investments from China. We have our own culture, principles and practices. A model of our own.

Employees who have been laid off should not hesitate to reskill or upskill themselves. When the government come up with such programmes, go ahead and sign up. Just as long as you’re willing to take on new challenges, a new dawn awaits.

Trying new things

The Google Home Mini which I featured on Gadget for Dad has been sold. Yayyy!

I haven’t been updating Roam with Bee lately because I’m currently occupied with other things.

I’ve started selling on

This is my first product.

The sale didn’t go as smoothly as I had expected. But it was nothing major. Just some hiccups.

I just want to try new things, and learn as I go along. It’s an exciting journey. Don’t give up and things will work out in the end.
